The short answer? Brexit.

Since the UK voted to leave the European Union, UK businesses have been required to register for VAT payments (Taxes and Duties) for sales made to customers in the EU. This requires a physical address in the European Union which, for smaller businesses like us, who do not have multiple registered addresses, requires employing an intermediary tax specialist in one of the EU countries to act on our behalf.

These intermediaries can charge around €3 per transaction, in addition to the taxes and duties payable for the import, meaning additional costs of at least EUR €4 - €5 per transaction. Passing these costs on to you, our customers, did not seem like a fair solution.

Making your purchase through established marketplaces like eBay, who are already registered for VAT in the EU, allows them to handle these tax requirements on our behalf, which minimises the costs for our business and for yourselves. Purchasing this way means that you only pay the import VAT (usually around €1) instead of the intermediary fees, which are absorbed by us as part of the cost charged to us by the online marketplace.

Update: We have reinstated direct shipping to EU addresses, on the basis that our customers accept possible import duties/taxes that may be payable on receipt.

3) Use the link contained in that section to make your purchase through our eBay listing
